The Heart of the Grove, and Reaching Beyond

Letter from the Rector
April 20, 2008

Dear Friends,

As I leave St. Stephens for a three-month sabbatical starting May 19, I’m also thinking of our congregation and its growing numbers.

What brings people to us at St. Stephen’s? We are just people. We don’t have all the answers, or even most of them. However I think we do feel a contagious joy in our worship of God, who welcomes our questions. By continuing to seek and continuing to ask, we find ourselves in an ever-deepening relationship with God. We also enjoy a richness of community in the way we love and care for each other. These things inspire and renew us, but they also reach out beyond our church walls to include and attract our neighbors.

I have made preparations with our staff and clergy so our people and programs will be in good and capable hands over the next few summer months. Even though these are traditionally quiet, low-attendance months for churches, we can be grateful for the growth we’ve enjoyed and continue to keep our hearts and our arms open to our community – and beyond. I will be praying with you for our continued health as a parish over the summer months.

In the meantime, we have prepared the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about my sabbatical. If you would like to read them, click here.

In Christ’s love,
The Rev’d Willie Allen-Faiella
Rector, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
