The Heart of the Grove, and Reaching Beyond

Support St. Stephen’s St. Stephen’s is blessed with a congregation that gives generously of its time, talent and (financial) treasure. It is with these gifts and some added ingenuity we are able to accomplish our goals and fulfill our vision to become the Heart of the Grove, and Reaching Beyond. We welcome you to get involved and support the parish. To offer your time you may contact the different ministry coordinators listed in the ministries section of the web site, or contact our parish administrator to help find a ministry that can best utilize your talents. We also welcome you to become a pledging member of the parish. As Christians, we believe that everything we have – our time, our talent, and our treasure – is a gift from God. We also believe that as a joyful and grateful response for those gifts we are to called give back by returning a portion of our time, our talent and our treasure. The biblical standard is the “tithe”, or ten percent. Recognizing that everyone also gives to other charitable organizations, we ask that each household determine what portion of their tithe they will pledge to St. Stephen’s on a yearly basis. Jesus spoke more about our stewardship of resources more than he did on any other topic within the four Gospels. As he said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6: 19-21). A useful, perhaps challenging, exercise to determine where our heart lies is to go through a month’s worth of checkbook entries or credit card statements. Pledge cards are sent to everyone in the parish in the late fall, and can also be downloaded from this site. We also offer the option to make your pledge payment automatically by having it withdrawn from a credit card or debit card account. To set this up, please contact Deacon Charles Humphries in the parish office. “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. - Matthew 6: 19-21 |
