The Heart of the Grove, and Reaching Beyond

Funerals

The death of a loved one is perhaps the most painful experience one can endure. St. Stephen’s offers the Rite of Christian Burial to all who seek it, as well as pastoral care for those who are grieving. Please contact the parish office at (305) 448-2601. The following are guidelines to consider:

Due to parking limitations, funerals are held after 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. Saturday funerals may also be arranged.

The funeral service is contained in the (Episcopal/Anglican) Book of Common Prayer.

The officiating minister will preach a homily; additionally the family, if they choose, is invited to select one person to give a brief eulogy about the deceased.

While flowers are traditionally associated with funerals, it is recommended that the family invite their friends to make contributions to a charity of the family’s choice. It will be the responsibility of the family to remove all flowers after the funeral.
If music is to be provided, the organist’s fee is $250. The sexton’s fee is $75. While there is no charge for the funeral, it is customary to make a financial contribution to St. Stephen’s Church, as well as to the officiating minister.
